BC160H -5k (Band Creator for 160m band for High power version)
BC160H is basically the same as BC160 except for maximum power handing capability: 5kw. Other than this, performance and characteristics of BC160H are the same as BC160.
BC160H covers continuously 1.8-1.9MHz and 3.5-3.8MHz with CD78, SWR throughout the bands falls into, typically, less than 1.5. It can handle maximum 5kw on 3.5-3.8MHz, and maximum 1kw on 1.8-1.9MHz.
BC160H uses no-point-contact variable Hi-Q inductor for tuning, driven by a DC motor. BC160H uses several power relays for band changes. JA1BBE had developed this model in 2009.
The performance of BC160H is as follows.
1. BC160H works covering 1.8-1.9MHz and 3.5-3.8MHz.
2. Maximum RF output power is 5kw(3.5-3.8MHz) or 1kw(1.8-1.9MHz).
3. SWR is typically 1.5 to 1.0 from 1.8 through 1.9MHz and from 3.5 through 3.8MHz.
4. Power supply of 24VDC (1A) is necessary.
5. RF Connector is type M.
6. 6 wires cable is necessary, to be connected between the controller and BC160H.
7. Antenna tuning is very simple, user chooses desired band switch, adjusting for lowest SWR using an UP/Down switch on the controller box.
8. BC160H includes a balun.
9. User need to shorten element length of CD78, both ends by 12-18cm each, vs the standard element length.
10. VERY IMPORTANT: BC160H needs initial adjustments when installed. Selecting “in-tap” and “out-tap” for impedance matching of the high frequency transformer on 160m and 80m bands.
